He is survived by his wife and companion of 62 years, Helen Mong Rockom, his son John Rockom, and daughters Andrea Gates, Elaine Dezso, Shirlee Johnson and Kathleen Bergstrom. He has ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Willard was born in Somers, Montana on June 28, 1913, the son of Johann Joeand Etta Rockom. Siblings are Willis Rockom twin brother deceased, Virgil Rockom brother deceased and sister Eloise Elzenga.
Willard?s paternal family was rooted in Rokkum, Norway and after immigration to America, began a commercial fishing enterprise in Anacortes, Washington. Several years later, they moved to Seattle and began building a series of fishing vessels to engage in commercial fishing in Alaska and on the Pacific Coast. Most of Willard?s career was in commercial fishing, but in 1967, following the sale of the last family vessel, he began a second career in marine electronics with Radar Electric Co, of Seattle, owned by long time friend Mac Mc Pherson. He was well known for his many accomplishments at Radar Electric and his close friendship with Mac has continued. He was also co-founder Seafarer?s International Union, representing commercial fishermen in Alaska and the Pacific Coast. He served as Treasurer of Fishermen?s Cooperative of Seattle, was a member of Sons of Norway and was an avid follower of Husky Football.
Most of all, we remember him for his great love of family, relatives and friends, all of whom he cherished dearly. We love him and will miss him as he joins his beloved twin brother Willis in eternity.
