Bill Miller, who lived in Villa at The Creekside- A Merrill Gardens Community. Is a tall, slender man whose vitality and interest glowed in spite of his 94 years.
Born in Baltimore, MD to Alberta and John Miller, a house painter, Bill was the oldest of three children. He and his brother and sister were educated in the Baltimore school system where Bill was active in sports on the boxing team and in basketball where his height must have been a real asset!
He served in the Navy Air Force for four years during WWII.
Bill had always loved horses, and soon got into the area of breaking and training them. He became a rodeo rider, traveling around the country for a considerable period of time.
While involved with horses, Bill met his future wife who owned her own horse, boarded at the stable where he worked. They were married in Baltimore in 1946; their 56-year marriage ending when she passed away in 2002. They had no children. During their marriage Bill had become a store manager for a paint and wallpaper company that had posted him successively to Atlanta, Richmond, Portland and Seattle. He also owned a service station for 18 years and was a volunteer for Group Hospital for the same number of years, until personnel there told him he was getting too old to serve!
Bill played golf and exercised three days a week. His special interest was his involvement with Woodinville Missionary Alliance Church and his focus on his relationship with God.
He liked his life at Creekside, which he found after looking at quite a few retirement homes, and enjoyed his apartment, the staff and his fellow residents.
If it gets too noisy, I can always turn off my hearing aids, he announced. But I would like to be remembered for my friendliness, I hope, and my trust and faith in God, my Heavenly Father.
Bill is survived by his brother and sister of Baltimore, MD, Esther Balles and John Miller.
