Clarence McCarty of Seguin passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015. Clarence was a proud family man who loved baseball and played into his early 70’s. He cherished the time he spent with his grandsons and fought sickness hard to meet his newest grandson four months ago. He was born on September 21, 1942 in Lima, Ohio to Robert Wayne and Florence Heckemeyer McCarty. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1960 where he met his wife of 48 years, Nancy Katherine. They married on August 26, 1967 at Shawnee Methodist Church in Lima, Ohio. He continued his education at Bluffton College earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business. He then attended Ohio State University and achieved an MBA from Bowling Green University. He was a die-hard Buckeyes fan – watched every football, basketball, and baseball game every season. Clarence had a great passion for baseball. He played and coached during college, and was even inducted into the Bluffton University Athletic Hall of Fame in January 2007. He loved all aspects of the game – playing, coaching, umpiring, and watching. He was always looking for an opportunity to coach and talk baseball. His love for baseball came at a young age. He was raised on a farm which gave him the opportunity to play a lot of baseball. The McCarty Farms is where he developed a hard work ethic and learned life lessons. The childhood he had at the farms helped him to complete his college education and be a great example for his three children, who all have earned college educations from Texas A&M University and Texas State University. Clarence became an educator after college. He taught high school and college, and eventually became a professor in finance at Texas Lutheran College, which brought his family to Seguin, Texas.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Katherine, daughter Alisa Katherine Harrison, sons Benjamin Robert and Bryan Donovan, sisters Eileen Diericks and Joyce Barker, and Aunt Joan Althaus. In addition he has 2 grandson, Samuel Boyd Harrison and Callen Donovan McCarty, and 2 daughter-in-laws, Kristen McCarty and Alissa McCarty.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 10AM at First United Methodist church 710 N Austin St, Seguin, TX 78155 in the main sanctuary.
