“If you ever hungered: he’s the first to fill your bowl, with love and tender kindness, the things within his soul.”
Clarence Helmer Olson passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 3, 2015 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 76. Friends and family are invited to Goetz Funeral Home on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 am to celebrate Clarence’s life at his funeral service. Clarence will be interred next to his beloved wife, Suzanne Olson whom passed away in 1997, immediately following the funeral service at St. John Lutheran Cemetery 111 West Wetz Street in Marion, Texas.
Clarence, famous for his championship chili, retired from the US Post Office in 1988 after 27 years as a mail carrier in Marion, Schertz and throughout Guadalupe County. He was born on July 19, 1938 in Fayette County, Texas to Ed and Alma (Osterloh) Olson at their farm. He was one of 11 children. Clarence graduated high school in Hawaii and immediately joined the US Marine Corps. Upon his discharge he went directly to work for the post office. He was a down to earth, country boy, farmer, rancher and confirmed bachelor until he met the love of his life, Suzanne Debusk, and married on, July 22, 1988. Together they worked his land, and bred and raised pit-bulls, determined to prove that the bred was gentle unless trained to be different. Clarence’s sense of humor and unforgettable character could make anybody laugh. He loved trading antique guns and his gentle heart often put him in the position of being an unsung hero to those society had turned their backs on. Clarence was generous to a fault. Even though he would go without, he would help friends and strangers alike. He often kept something cooking on the stove in the event someone stopped by and needed something to eat.
Clarence was predeceased by his wife Suzanna Olson and eight siblings. He is survived by his step-daughters Kathryn Vanessa LeVine and her husband Terry; Kelly Ann Forbes and her husband Michael, his grandchildren Ryan Joseph von Rosenberg, Lon Brady Millsap, Evan Arthur Forbes and Andrea Alana LeVine Grant. His generous heart will also be missed by his eleven great-grandchildren as well as by his brother Robert L. Olson and his sister Carol Olson Edwards.
“There’s and empty echo, from the chambers of my heart. A sound that only I know, the rhythm I hear when we’re apart. This tune that beats from me, some days is more than I can bear. Life’s a sad melody, the saddest song when your not there.”
