Connie, 75, passed away peacefully while in the company of her niece and namesake Connie Sue Kizer. Her body had fought the brave fight for many, many years until her Heavenly Father wrapped her soul tightly in His arms and took her to eternal life. For all who knew Connie, knew her faith in God was her strength here on earth.
Born to Lenora Roehe Magee Shaver in Houston, Texas, Connie was from a proud, hard-working German family. Her grandparents came to America to make a better life and Connie continued that legacy. A family of share croppers worked the land they never owned, but still worked it with great pride for what God had provided. Connie grew up moving from school to school. Almost every year she had a new school to attend. She was proud of the fact that she maintained honor roll grades every year. When she became old enough to help the family she had to quit school. Later in life she wanted to show her family the importance of education, so she went back and got her GED.
In 1959 she married James “Jimmy” Blair. Jimmy and Connie made a living and raised their family on what was his family’s Holstein Dairy Farm in Seguin, Texas. While helping her husband on the farm, Connie worked at SWBell Telephone Co. in Seguin, Texas. There she met and worked with ladies who would become her lifelong friends. In 1969 she quit to be a stay at home mom while baby-sitting and sewing for others. Later she took over the dairy farm when Jimmy decided he wanted to try a new career. The Holstein cows became her life’s passion, next to God and family. C-Blair Dairy was operated by Connie alone for many years. Her brand became the “Broken C.” This speaks volumes to her life’s struggles; though her body and spirit were broken many, many times, her faith remained strong. In 1995 she sold her beloved Holstein dairy cows because she was no longer able to physically handle this demanding job. It broke her heart to see her cows leave. In 1997 Connie returned to AT&T (formerly SWB) and retired in 2003 with a total of 18 years of service. Connie never stopped farming. In her last few months she told people, “I’ve been giving instruction from the couch.” Even the day before she passed, she was still giving instructions on how to care for her Black Angus cows.
During Connie’s life many people in Guadalupe County share her joy of farming and agriculture. These people were her dear friends. One of these friends, Tiny Mondin, became her companion during the past year and a half. They shared the same interests and faith. Together they attended many community events and she was very happy. Connie wrote explicit instructions on how she wanted everything handled in her death. Family were instructed to be, “frugal.” This won’t surprise anyone who knew this Godly, “down to earth,” cowgirl. She wrote, “Thank you so very much to ALL that helped me during my life. I would name you but I’m afraid I’ll forget someone. Thank you! To everyone: because at the end of this life, what you’ve done with/for Jesus only counts. Nobody else can save you.”
Connie was a long-time, faithful member of Kingsbury Baptist Church, The Independent Cattlemen’s Association, Holstein Association USA and other various organizations over the years.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Caroline Lenora Shaver, brother James D. MaGee, husband James J. Blair and many other special relatives and dear friends.
Connie is survived by her daughters, Brenda Sue Mrazek and husband Rodney, Charlotte Lynn Russell, son, James Jarrett Blair and wife Shelly; grandchildren, Caroline Maurene Welfel and husband Chris, Catherine Sue Schoenvogel and husband Jared, Regan Michelle Fohn and husband Trey, Shae DeLaney Blair, Cassandra Kay Mrazek, Colin Rodney Mrazek, Jamie Ryn Blair; three great-grandchildren, Tarryn Fohn, Rease Fohn and Wyatt Schoenvogel; sister-in-law Jean Darlene Quarles and husband Sammy, plus many beloved nieces and nephews.
