

Edwin Burnett Bowles Jr., was called home by our heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 while surrounded by the love of his family and close friends. He was born December 28, 1945 to the late Edwin and Martha Bowles of LaVernia, Texas. Born and raised in San Antonio, he had been a resident of Seguin since 1978. He retired in 2007 from Motorola and Continental after 34 years. He was a member of Emanuel’s Lutheran Church of Seguin, Texas where he was married on September 30, 1978 to Theresa Ruth Stratmann.
Ed was raised on the Southside of San Antonio and went to school at Harlandale Independent School District where he graduated in 1964. He was the son of a postal worker while his mother worked from the Harlandale school district cafeteria. In high school he studied the metal trades and continued his career in the tool making trade for 30 years. He was employed at Alamo Iron Works where he served as an apprenticeship and the former Kelly Air Force Base where he worked from 1968 until 1972 as a machinist in the manufacturing branch. In 1973 he went to work for Motorola Inc. in Seguin. He was hired by the plant manager and setup the machine shop there where he worked for the next 30+ years. In 1994 he moved from the tool making department in to the Electronics Industries’ Surface Mount Technology as a programmer in the new products launch group until his retirement on June 30th, 2007.
Ed enjoyed his family, traveling, camping and in his retirement years he enjoyed reading and volunteering his time at several organizations; he joined RSVP and was involved with the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the VOAD, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster, the Salvation Army Board and he was a Sunrise Lion until he became ill.
He is survived by his wife Theresa Ruth Stratmann Bowles, their 7 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. His daughters are; Tasha Alaniz and husband Robert and their son Axl Bowen and, daughter Paisley Allesandra Alaniz of San Antonio, Texas; Tammy Jo Bowles and son Michael of LaCoste, Texas; Helen McCulloch and daughters Faith Bowles and Nicole McCulloch of Seguin; son Brandon Bowles of Seguin and children Brandon Gage and Hailey Bowles of Seguin; and son Daniel Ray Bowles and wife Angelina; Michelle Len Trevino and husband David and their children David Myles, Caleb (deceased), and Falon Beckham and children Caden and Sofia; Melissa Lene Wolfe; and daughter Lene Devon of Pflugerville, Texas. He is also survived by 1 brother; James Everett and wife Mary Helen of San Antonio, Texas and sister Barbara Roberts of LaVernia, Texas; He is preceded in death by his sister Edith Treadwell of Decatur, Alabama.
Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation on Sunday, June 21 from 5 to 8 pm at Goetz Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 22, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the Emanuel’s Lutheran Church at 206 N. Travis St. Seguin. The Reverend Anne Kolmeier officiating. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park 2951 State Hwy 46 S. New Braunfels, Texas.
