

Jack Mayfield died March 30, 2014 at the age of 87 after a short battle with cancer. He was born to Robert and Helen Mayfield in Udall, KS, the oldest of fraternal twins, on March 29, 1927. Jack graduated from Mulvane (KS) High School, and attended Independence Junior College, Independence, KS. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War.
The major portion, 27 years, of his working career was within the grocery industry. He was a corporate officer for Super Foods, Chicago, IL, Fleming Foods, Topeka, KS and Super Value stores, Minneapolis, MN, which moved his family to many different states including Michigan, New York, Illinois, Kansas, Ohio and culminating with him Donna opening Mayfield’s United Super in Seguin during the mid seventies. After selling the grocery store Jack owned several businesses in San Antonio as well as Stor-Mor Mini Storage in Seguin.
Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as chairman or member of several church committees. He was also a member of Sunrise Lions Club since 1987 and is a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was a lifetime member of the Texas Lions Camp for crippled children. Jack was an avid gardener and fisherman.
Jack, the fourth youngest of nine children, is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna; daughter, Kim Markgraf of San Antonio; son, Jason Mayfield (Kaye), of Valdez, AK; grandchildren, Justin and Victoria (Tori); two sisters, Betty and Ruby; one brother, Arthur; one brother like nephew, Robert and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held April 2nd, 2014 at 10 am at the First United Methodist Church of Seguin with Rev. Wyatt presiding, Interment will be at a later date at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s honor to the Methodist Youth Fellowship Group at 710 N Austin St, Seguin, TX 78155.
