

Joseph Lloyd Taylor, loving husband to his wife Marjorie of 70 years, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, the 19th of January, 2011 at the age of 90. He was born to Napoleon and Gertrude Taylor in Floresville, Texas. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Josephine; four sisters: Mildred, Verna, Cloma, and Bernice; and brother Louis. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie; daughter Jere Batten and husband Carlton; and daughter Carolyn Johnson and husband Bruce. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Laura Travalini and husband Rich, Darren Carr and wife Amy, Paul Bottoms and wife Stephanie; and great grandchildren Robby Wrinkle, Dylan Carr, Sammy and Gabriel Bottoms.
After graduating from Floresville High School, Lloyd married Marjorie in 1940 and went on to serve our country in the US Navy from 1944-1945. During World War II Lloyd served on the US Hopewell in Guam, Pearl Harbor, and Tokyo Bay. After returning to Texas, Lloyd and Marjorie lived in Floresville and Stockdale, Texas where he was a farmer and rancher. While in Stockdale, Lloyd was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as deacon, teacher, and Bible study director. He also served on the school board, Farm Home Administration, Appraisal Board, and the A&M Experimental Agriculture program. Retirement in 1980 allowed him more family time and time for his hobbies of hunting, fishing, gardening, and feeding his deer. After moving to Seguin in 1986 he joined First Baptist Church of Seguin and volunteered in the homebound program.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5 to 7 pm on Sunday, January 23rd, in the front stateroom at Goetz Funeral Home at 713 N. Austin St. in Seguin. The funeral service will be at 10 am on Monday, Jan. 24th at the First Baptist Church of Seguin, 1314 E. Cedar Street, with interment following at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
