

Louis Rey Herrera Sr, beloved father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 89 on Friday, March 7, 2014 surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved. Louis was born in Seguin, Texas to the late Francisco and Margarita Herrera on August 25, 1924. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rufina Herrera.
Louis lived all his life in Seguin where he was an active member of his church and community. He was drafted into the army during World War II where he was wounded in battle and afterwards was awarded with a purple heart. After his service in the military, he made a career as a civil servant working at Randolph Air Force Base, Kelly Air Base and eventually retiring from Fort Sam Houston military base.
Louis lived a full and active life devoting his time to his love of family, church, dancing and fishing. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and Crusillistas at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending summers with his entire family at the Texas Coast fishing for the elusive Red Drum. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
Louis is survived by his four children and their spouses, Yolanda Herrera; Irene Herrera and partner Richard Basquez; Diane Reyes and husband Edward Reyes; Louis Herrera Jr. and wife Belia Herrera.
Louis is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Raul Reyes Jr., John Gabriel Reyes, Kathleen Sikes, Christine Herrera, Leticia Castellon, Tomas Castellon III, Edward Reyes Jr., Celeste Luna, Angela Sealey, Deanne Herrera, Devan Herrera and Stefanie Herrera. Louis had 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, March 10th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Goetz Funeral Home. A rosary will be held on Monday, March 10th at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Raul Reyes Jr., John Gabriel Reyes, Edward Reyes Jr., Tomas Castellon III, Nicholas Herrera and Mark Sikes. Honorary pallbearers Joe Luna Jr., Joe Sealey, Ayden Rey Herrera, Noe Salazar, Ben Herrera, John Gonzales, Carlos De la Garza and Oswald Castellanos.
