

Maria del Refugio Miranda de Bermudez of 88 years of age died Thursday, January 23, 2014, in Seguin, Texas. She was born October 24, 1925, in Jesus Maria, Jalisco, Mexico and her parents were Jose Jesus Miranda Garcia (who preceded her in death) and Toribia Salazar Gonzalez (who also preceded her in death). Maria was married to Rogelio Bermudez Plasencia for 51 years until his death in 1997.
Maria was a loving mother and excellent homemaker; she believed in investing in real estate and in family. She managed her household like a business which enabled her children to acquire higher educations. Maria and her husband relocated to Chicago in 1960 with 3 small children from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico where their 4th child was born. In 1981 they relocated to Texas. Maria finally settled in Seguin, Texas after the death of her husband to be closer to family in 2007.
Maria was a creative and excellent seamstress. She appreciated religious art, music by her favorite Spanish artists, uplifting poetry and short stories and she was an avid landscaper and maintained beautiful gardens at her home. Maria loved to read the Bible regularly for inspiration. She was a local parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Seguin, Texas. She loved her family immensely and was extremely proud of her grandchildren.
Maria is survived by her four children, Maria R. Bermudez of Seguin, Texas; Rogelio Bermudez of Chicago, Illinois; Felipe J. Bermudez of Canyon Lake, Texas (and his wife, Beverly); and Esperanza “Hope” Leahy of Plano, Texas (and her husband, Mark). She is also survived by her five grandchildren, namely, Preston Leahy of Houston, Texas; Paloma Monteleone of Austin, Texas (and her husband, Isaac); Grayson Leahy of Plano, Texas; Anastasia Sanchez of Canyon Lake, Texas; and MinJi Byun of Chicago, Illinois. She is also survived by her sister, Trinidad Miranda Salazar of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; her brother, Jose Jesus Miranda of Zamora, Michoacan, Mexico; and her brother Juan Manuel Miranda of Jacona, Michoacan, Mexico; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 24th at Goetz Funeral Home at 6 pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7pm. A mass of a christian burial will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Saturday, 10 am. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Park on Tuesday, January 28th at 2:30 pm.
