Raul served in the U.S. Army and Navy during WWII. During his service, he was trained and qualified as an “Airborne Ranger” paratrooper to protect our country. After the war, he married his childhood sweetheart, Natalia. They raised their family in Odessa, Texas. He worked as a hydraulic mechanic leadman for Texas Electric until he retired after forty years of service.
Throughout his life he was a mentor and a precious soul that was always available to anyone who might need him. He loved unconditionally. Raul was recognized throughout the community as a father to the fatherless. If his name came up in conversation, inevitably someone would say, “I know Raul. He raised me!”
Ten years ago, Raul and Natalia moved to Stockdale, Texas to live their dream. It was always their desire to have lush property surrounded with lots of greenery and trees. It was here in this very paradise where the Lord came for Raul to carry him homeward. He loved the Lord Jesus and was a born again believer. He relied on Psalm 23 to give him strength. He has left his children and grandchildren a beautiful legacy. Raul loved family and especially large family gatherings. He was known for his Sunday BBQ’s at “The Acres” which was the family homestead in Odessa. Family and friends always knew that they could visit at any time on Sunday. There would always be food and fellowship waiting for them. Raul loved to travel and loved taking his children on vacations. He was always ready for a road trip. He enjoyed good food and said that he had the appetite of a fifteen year old boy. Raul instilled the joy of reading into all of his children’s lives. It was through his “Book of the Month Club” that he taught his small town children that there was another entire world waiting for them to see and enjoy. He learned carpentry from his father, and was skilled at making furniture, as well as adding an addition to his home. He had the heart of a teacher and was always teaching his children something new. Raul had an incredible appreciation for music and enjoyed singing while his daughter, Estelita, played the piano. Those who knew Raul will miss his tremendous love for life.
