Tomas was born December 21, 1924 in Seguin, Texas to Pedro and Luisa (Martinez) Asencion. He was a US Army veteran having served all over the world. Tomas married Paula Tavera in 1947 at the old Catholic church on Jones St. in Seguin. Together they raised six daughters in Seguin. Tomas was very dedicated to his family and loved to cook for them, make tortillas and take care of their home. On Sunday mornings, Tomas would sit and read the comics to his children while they waited for their mother to get ready for church. Without fail, each summer, he would take his entire family on vacation to Galveston, Corpus Christi, San Juan, McAllen or Fort Worth, many times looking like a great caravan of cars heading to their destination. Tomas loved to travel, fish and listen to Mariachi and old Gene Autry recordings. He retired after 24 years of work at Randolph Air Force base where he ran a Speedy Chef truck on base. Later in life, he could be found sitting outside waving at bus drivers from his front porch. Tomas was an avid Cowboys fan, loved the annual Fourth of July parade and was a truly devoted Catholic attending mass every day. Tomas was preceded in death by his parents, his daughters Volanda and Feliz and his siblings; Marcelino, Antonia, Santos, Gilbert, Clara, Joe and Jesse.
Tomas leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Paula, his five daughters and their families; Mary Lou Sassenhagen and her husband Joe; Yolanda Hernandez and her husband Victor Jr.; Mary Ann Guadarrama and her husband Cesareo III; Rose Asencion and Ann Marie Reyes and her husband Edward Jr. He will also be missed by his sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren as well as his siblings Ralph Asencion and his wife Celia; Rosie Guerrero; Josie Aguilar and her husband Fidel and Tomas’ trusted companion PeeWee.
