

Viola May Fincher, resident of Seguin for the last 5 years, passed away on Thursday December 15, 2011 at the age of 97. She was one of twelve children born in Springdale, KS to Oscar and Arlene Dykes on October 11, 1914. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Fincher and 10 of her siblings. She is survived by one sister, Cleda Burgess; daughter, Mary Powell with husband Bert; one grandson Robert Powell and numerous nieces and nephews.
As a young lady, Viola loved to dance and worked with the USO during WWII. Later in life she worked in a doctor’s office as a receptionist in Leavenworth, KS where she lived most of life, except for the short span she lived in California. Her hobbies included embroidery of tea towels, working in her garden and tending to her beautiful flowers. She was also an avid reader and a member of the Ester Circle of First United Methodist Church.
A public graveside service will be held on Tuesday December 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the pavilion at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park with a memorial service following at the First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Women Mission Fund of FUMC, 710 N Austin St. Seguin, TX 78155.
