Passed away June 15, 2013.
Donald was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. He married Nancy Erickson in 1947. They spent the first 24 years in Merrillville, Indiana. After Nancy’s passing in 1991, he spent most of the remaining portion of his life in Seminole, Florida. His later years were spent in Rowlette, Texas, although he always considered himself a Floridian. He was a hard working truck driver most of his life. His family was the most important part of his life. Dad always made us feel special individually, and he always made everyone he talked to feel important. It was his way. He loved vacations with the family and family holiday events. His favorite topic at the old family reunions was talking about cars with the nephews and brother in laws. As his life continued, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Russell and Fannie Avis (Pollitt) High; his wife, Nancy Lou (Erickson) High; a brother, Vic High; a sister, Norma (High) Kirkpatrick, and a grandson, Michael Douglas Carter. Survivors include daughters, Donita Carter and her husband Stephen, Delaine Daoust and her husband Claude, and Dawn Fecher and her husband Duane; grandchildren, Stephanie Stubbs and her husband Chris, Marie Morande and her husband Craig, Jessica Woollard, Christie Barrick and her husband Todd, James Fecher, and Aaron Fecher and his wife Tara; great grandchildren, Alex and Sydney Stubbs, Emily and Anthony Morande, Caden and Sadie Woollard and Ada Holdren; and sisters, Judy Surprise and her husband Bob, and Karen Oliver and her husband, Ken.
When we think of the perfect picture, we have many in our minds...Along with sweet memories of a Father that taught us unconditional love every day of our lives, mostly by example. A man that quietly saved our hearts & souls many times, requiring nothing in return. A man that made sure that we laughed & played as hard as we worked. Our lives are now missing a best friend and a father that any daughter would want. We promise you, Dad that we will make sure that the unconditional love that you gave us will continue on in our families. We love you and you will be deeply missed by all of your friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home, 7950 131st St. Seminole, FL 33776. Inurnment will follow in Garden Sanctuary Cemetery.
We welcome your thoughts and stories about our father.

Thank you, the Donald High Family..
