

George T. Tibbetts, Sr., age 80, of Largo, Florida, formerly of Petersburg, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 23, 2012. George was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, raised in Duluth then ventured out at the young age of 18 when he met his wife, Geneva, of 60 years in Sandusky, Ohio. He was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served 2 years as a corporal in the Korean War. After returning home they settled in Petersburg, Michigan, where they raised 4 children. During that time George was a branch manager at Petersburg Monroe Bank & Trust and the Summerfield Township Treasurer. He later became the assistant vice president of Monroe Bank & Trust in Monroe. George was a board member for Toledo Yacht Club. He was also treasurer for The Centennial in Petersburg in 1969. He and his wife owned Skogmo Department Store for 10 years before moving to Largo, Florida, in 1976 where George became a sales representative for JC Penney. After retirement George became active in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Seminole Lodge #2519 where he proudly served as Secretary Treasurer and made many life-long friends. He was a devout and loving husband and father who especially enjoyed time with his family and fellow lodge members. He is survived by his loving wife, 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
