Young, Gordon Jr, passed away August 19, 2017, one day after his 79th birthday, in his home after a battle with COPD. Gordon was born in Tarpon Springs, Florida, August 18, 1938. While Jazz influenced his drum, piano, and trumpet skills, playing Country Music at Joyland with Bill Floyd paid many bills. He was proud of his work as GM and ultimately VP at Allied Van Lines Blocker Transfer Moving and Storage. Among many things he loved his family, Christmas prime rib, dirty martinis with his sons, late night steak dinners, going to Gigi’s for Pizza and his mother’s icebox lemon pie.
He is survived by sons, Gene and Ray Young and daughters, Karen Miller and Tina Lopez. And 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Preceding him in death, Mother, Hazel, Father, Gordon, brother, George, Wife, Kathleen, son, Buddy Miller.
Service will be private. Gordon’s wishes were to have his ashes put into his trumpet case, and placed inside Kathleen’s mausoleum.

Icebox Lemon Pie
One box of Graham Cracker Crust (follow recipe on box)
6 Eggs separate yolks from whites (Whites for Meringue)
Note, be very careful to keep yolks completely separate from whites
2 Cans sweet condensed milk
Juice of half of lemon maybe more if small and zest from the lemon
2/3 Cups sugar
1/2 Teaspoon of cream tartar
Bake pie crust based on Graham Cracker instructions and set aside to cool
Combine sweet condensed milk, egg yolks, lemon juice, and half the zest
Mix well and pour into crust.
Meringue
Mixing bowl and beater must be chilled and very clean. In mixer add Egg Whites. Turn mixer on medium high and gradually add sugar and cream tartar. Turn speed up as you add these ingredients. Keep beating until peaks form. Ultimately high speed for best results.
Spread meringue over pie one scoop or two at a time from the center to the very edge. Make sure to pull whites over the pie edge with keeping the center as high as possible. Once complete take spatula and pull egg whites up to create big peaks. Sprinkle remaining lemon zest on top of pie.
Bake in 375 over for 7 to 8 minutes. Peaks should be lightly brown. Keep close attention.
Remove from oven and refrigerate for 24 hours.
