
Grace Punsalang Caringal, 89, a new resident of Chestertown, MD and long-time resident of Seminole, FL passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. She died peacefully after a cerebral aneurism. She was a dedicated and loving wife to Dr. Jose Bernal Caringal, who preceded her in 2013. They were married in 1952.
Born February 29, 1932, in Manila, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Jose V. and Remedios A.V. Punsalang. In 1939, she graduated from Holy Ghost College, since renamed College of the Holy Spirit, in Manila. She started nursing school at the young age of 16. She graduated four years later with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Santo Tomas. After moving to the United States in 1954, she passed her licensing exam, in Ohio, and received her Registered Nurse (RN) designation.
Her career included being elevated twice to Directress of Nursing (D.O.N.) and running her own Assisted Living Facility. Grace was both a pediatric and geriatric nursing specialist.
Grace is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Conrad and Nicole Caringal of Chestertown, MD; her daughter and companion, Mia Grace Caringal and Scotty Parker of Savannah, GA; her granddaughter Mya Caringal, Tallahassee, FL and her grandson Adam Caringal, Orlando, FL; her siblings, Luz P. Caro, Quezon City, Philippines, Lt. Col. Ernesto A. Punsalang, Philippine Army (Ret.) Quezon City, Philippines, and Norma P. Limjuco, Lakeland, FL and many wonderful nephews and nieces. Her oldest sister, Dr. Mercy P. Pineda predeceased her earlier this year.
A devout Catholic, Grace will have a funeral Mass at St. Matthews, Largo, FL and be interned alongside her husband at the Garden Sanctuary Cemetery in Seminole, FL.
