
Fred was born to Frank Henry Kronauge and Shirley “Beebe” Kronauge and was known to everyone simply as Fred. He lived a full and adventurous life centered around family, hard work, and a passion for exploring the world. Fred was the beloved husband of Carol Lee Andrews Kronauge for 73 wonderful years. Together they built a large and loving family that remained the center of his world.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving in Korea with honor and dedication. Throughout his life, he was an entrepreneur, farmer, pilot, and lifelong adventurer. He was the proud owner of American Engine & Welding in Dayton, Ohio, where he built a respected business through determination, innovation, and hard work. After retiring, his love for travel inspired him to purchase a travel agency, About Travel, where he enjoyed planning memorable trips and sharing his knowledge and experiences with family and friends. He found great joy in introducing loved ones to new places, cultures, and adventures around the world.
Fred embraced life fully and enjoyed camping, boating, motorcycle riding, and traveling whenever possible. Whether on the road, on the water, or in the air, he was happiest discovering something new and creating memories with those he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Lee Andrews Kronauge; his children, Frank A. Kronauge; James F. Kronauge; Suzanne Kronauge and wife Kimberly Tonione; Marie K. Molina and husband Manuel Molina; Theresa Kronauge Nida; and daughter-in-law Sally Vance Kronauge. He was a proud grandfather to James Rudolf Kronauge and wife Toni Gualandri Kronauge, and Joseph Kronauge and wife Megan Roberson Kronauge. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Adelynn and Joselynn.
Fred is also survived by his sister, Mary Kronauge Ackerman; step-sister, MaryJane Janning Harris; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son David Kronauge; daughter-in-law Okjin Kim; son-in-law Dr. Wesley Nida; brother-in-law Howard Ackerman; brother Thomas Kronauge; and sister-in-law Louise “Red” Kronauge.
Fred will be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, adventurous spirit, and the deep love he shared with his family. His stories, guidance, and enthusiasm for life created lasting memories that will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held in Dayton, Ohio, at a future date to be announced.
