

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the beloved son of the late Rose and Herbert Gerretz. He carried with him the values of hard work, loyalty, and dedication throughout his life.
He was the devoted husband of Nancy, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and lasting memories.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Nancy; his sons, Joseph (Tia) and William (April); and his cherished grandchildren, Michaela, Joseph, Hunter, and Connor, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
A proud United States Navy veteran, Joseph went on to dedicate his career to serving his community as a Lieutenant with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office before retiring. His commitment to service, integrity, and helping others left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Beyond his career, Joseph embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved riding motorcycles, traveling, and enjoying the camaraderie of lifelong friendships. He was a proud lifetime member of the Blue Knights, the Fraternal Order of Police, and American Legion Post #252.
Those who knew him will also remember his unmistakable sweet tooth. Chocolate cake and ice cream were among his favorite treats, and he never passed up the chance to enjoy dessert with family and friends. His love of life, warm spirit, and appreciation for the simple pleasures will be deeply missed.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy of service, devotion to family, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
A visitation will be held Sunday, July 12th, 2026 from 3:30pm - 6:30pm, Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home, 7950 131st Street North, Seminole, FL 33776. A Funeral Mass will take place, Monday, July 13th, 2026, at 11am, St. Jerome Catholic Church,10895 Hamlin Blvd, Largo, FL 33774. Following the mass, Joseph will be laid to rest at Garden Sanctuary Cemetery, Seminole, Florida.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
