BULKELEY, Louise Pintal of Clearwater, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Sylvan Health Care in Clearwater, FL. Born in Lowell, MA in 1921. She came to FL in 1975 after retiring as a Budget Analyst in the comptroller’s office at Fort Devens, MA. She was the daughter of the late Louis P. and Mary Rodrigues Pintal. The wife of Joseph W. Bulkeley who died March 12, 2002. After graduating from Lowell High School in 1939, she attended Lowell Commercial College and taught Commercial subjects at this school for several years. She attended Bentley School of Accounting and Finance when it was located on Boylston Street, Boston, MA and received her certificate in 1948 and eventually received her Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the now known Bentley College located in Waltham, MA in 1972. From 1943 to 1946 she served in the U.S. Coast Guard Women’s Reserve (SPARS) both in the 11th Naval District, Long Beach, CA and in the 1st Naval District, Boston, MA. She became a Chief Petty Officer while stationed in Boston, MA and held that rank until her discharge on June 20, 1946. She was an active member and is still a member in the DAV Clearwater Chapter 11 and served as Commander, the first female commander in 40 years, from 1981 to 1982. She founded the Pinellas Park Chapter 1700, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and served as President for several years. She is also a member at large of the American Legion, Women of the Moose HC 3000, Saint Memorial Medical Center, Lowell, MA, the Clearwater Chapter 259 NARFE and of St. Catherine of Siena Women’s Guild. She belonged to St. Catherine of Siena Church and was a member of the choir for several years. She lived at Mission Hills, Clearwater before moving to Mainland’s of Tamarac, Pinellas Park in 1979 and moved to Regency Oaks in 1996 and resided there until her death.
Survivors include: several cousins in Lowell, MA area, as well as in Manchester and Exeter, NH, Jacksonville, FL and Hartford, CT.
Visitation held Wednesday, 4/23 from 2pm until 4pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, Belcher Road Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 4/24 at 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Interment alongside her husband will be at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
