She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on September 6, 1933, to Kathryn M. Smith and Karl G. Smith. Mary Ann graduated from St. Benedict’s Academy. She married Edward P. Hughes on April 11, 1953.
Mary Ann was the heart of our family, as well as a devoted wife, sister and friend. Her family was the greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. After raising her family, she entered the work force as a Police Communications Operator for the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop E headquarters, Erie, PA.
She was a devoted Catholic, who lived her faith every day and served as an inspiring role model to all who knew her. Following retirement, Mary Ann and her beloved husband, Bud were longtime members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church after fulfilling their dream of moving to Florida, to spend their golden years together. After Bud's passing, Mary Ann began a new chapter at Lake Seminole Square, where she found a wonderful community and cherished many new friendships.
Her love, faith and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
She is survived by her children: Timothy K. Hughes (Cindy), Edward P. Hughes (wife Mary, deceased), Mary Lee Hughes, Karl G. Hughes, and Kathryn M.
