Born in Hama, Syria, on November 9, 1934, to Khaled and Najieh (Mashnouk) Mugharbel, Mokhless was one of ten children. He came to the United States in 1958 to attend the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Margaret, met while graduate students at Florida State University and married in 1967.
Mokhless had a long and fulfilling career developing vocational rehabilitation programs for the disabled, working first in Illinois for ten years, and then for 17 years in the International Labour Organization of the United Nations. Based first in Bahrain, then Switzerland, and later, Thailand, he traveled extensively throughout the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Rim for his work. His caring nature, curiosity about different cultures, and determination made him a perfect match for this type of work. These are also a few of the many qualities for which he is admired by his family and friends. His warmth and contagious smile will be missed by all who knew him. In retirement he established a towing company with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Kammes Mugharbel; his children, Mimi Stevens (husband, Mike), Melissa Mugharbel, Mike Mugharbel (wife, Kyra), all of Seminole, Michelle Mugharbel, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Maggie Mugharbel (husband, Darren Tuozzoli), of Brooklyn, New York; his grandchildren, Alexis Stevens, Michael Stevens, Michael Mugharbel, MacKenzie Mugharbel, all of Seminole, and Brooke McGinley, Brittany Walls, Brandon Walls, and Bridgette Walls, all of Huntsville, Alabama. He is also survived by his brothers, Said Mugharbel, of Succussunna, New Jersey, and Farouk Mugharbel, of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and sisters, Ensaf Adi, of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and Mokhlessa Mugharbel (his twin), of Hama, Syria, as well as extended family in New Jersey, Chicago, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.
