In 1964 Rick’s family moved from Pittsburgh to Largo, Florida. As a child, Rick spent hours riding his bike with friends all over the county and fishing at the Indian Rocks Pier. In 1978, Rick became a volunteer firefighter with the Indian Rocks Fire Department. He graduated from the Pinellas Fire Academy in 1981 and the St. Petersburg EMT program. He retired as Assistant Chief of Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue in 2010. During a firefighting career that spanned more than 25 years, Rick taught at St. Petersburg College, Pinellas County Schools Safety Programs, was a Charter Member of the Indian Rocks Beach Rotary Club in 1998, served on the Critical Incident Stress Management, Region 5 team and served as the Hazardous Materials Analyst with the Pinellas County Emergency Management. He was active with the Pinellas County ACS/ARES Amateur Radio Operators.
Rick was a kind and compassionate “People” person who spent hours behind the scenes and loved doing so
When Rick wasn’t working on projects, he and Jan enjoyed exploring Florida coastal towns in their boat, via truck and on bicycles. Always the curious explorer, Rick cranked up the radio and took the back roads when he traveled out of state to the New York Wine Country, Lake Erie, New Orleans and Charleston, his favorite places. The man, his truck and his country music- That was Rick!
He is missed and loved by his wife, Jan; his Fox Hound, Bella: sister, Susan (Chip) Overstreet; brother, Stephen (Kim) Walker; brother, John Walker and his nieces and nephews.
