

Ruby Thornton Harvey age 96, originally from Georgia passed away on Monday, March 27 in St. Petersburg, Florida. She is survived by her sons, Pete(Kathy) and Harold ( Joyce) Thornton; grandchildren Bill (Amy) Funk, Jessica Perez, Ian(Jessica) and Ruby Thornton; great grandchildren; William and Austin Funk, Molly (Brad) Johnson, Nolan Baxter, Nykole Haynesworth, Cayden and Madison Major; great granddaughter. Aurora Johnson and sisters, Idell Harvey and Patsy Hansard. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harvey; brothers, George L, Emmett and Donald Jackson and sisters Levada Kirk and Joyce Whitener.
Ruby was the first woman Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of Freedom Federal Savings and Loan in St. Petersburg. After retiring from banking she moved to Brooksville where she sold Real Estate. After her husband died she moved to Deland to be near family but eventually moved home to St. Petersburg where she had many friends and an active life at Mainlands. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing golf and traveling. She will be missed by her many family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home, 7950 131 Street N. Seminole, Florida 33776 on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice Foundation. Burial will be in Deland, Florida at a later date.
