The ever-radiant, kind and classy, Sally Russell Horrocks, 85 of Seminole, FL, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday May 4th, 2025 at her independent living condo at Freedom Square of Seminole, FL. Sally was born in Baltimore MD on August 19,1939 at John’s Hopkins Hospital to James Merrill Russell and Catherine Penn Russell. She was a loving, kind and generous mom and grandmother and is survived by her daughter, Susan Rebecca Latrobe (Becky) and her two granddaughters, Jessica Ashley Latrobe and Alison Elizabeth Latrobe, who loved their “Nana”.
She lived outside of Philadelphia, PA in her younger years, then moved to Towson, MD where she graduated from Towson High School in 1957. Sally began her college career at Mary Baldwin and transferred to the University of Maryland where she graduated in 1962 with her Bachelor’s degree. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and remained an active member her whole life. She had a successful career as a Social Worker for the State of Maryland Rosewood Center and later in Baltimore with Kennedy Krieger Institute. Sally volunteered on the board of her HOA at Deerfox in MD and managed the care of the community pool. She brought East Coast charm wherever she went. In 2020 she moved to the west coast of Florida to be close to her daughter and grand-daughters and to soak up every ray of joy life had to offer.
Sally loved everyone and everything. All her life she had a dog by her side. Her miniature Toy Poodle, Theo, was her bestest buddy and most recently she had bonded with her rescue Goldendoodle, Nash. Some of her favorite things include anything with hummingbirds, attending craft festivals, enjoying nature and taking care of her plants, going on local field trips with her friends and anything sweet! In earlier years, Sally enjoyed making stained glass pieces and custom painting trays and other small items. She was easy going and kind to everyone and was always up for an adventure, boat ride or lunch and a cocktail by the water. She enjoyed traveling and her favorite trips were to Australia and Germany where she rode on the back of a Harley Davidson on the Autobahn. Sally had a fun and whimsical flare and style. Whether enjoying a local festival, toasting to a sunset, or offering a compliment to a passing dog, she lived life fully, freely, and with an open heart.
In Sally’s memory, hug your people, pet a dog, compliment a stranger, and maybe eat dessert first. She would’ve wanted it that way.
A memorial service will be held on May 19, 2025 at 11AM at the beautiful facility at Garden Sanctuary at 7950 131st St N, Seminole, FL 33776
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fluff Animal Rescue in Sally’s memory.
