Wiltrud Anna Bennington was born in Germany on July 14th, 1934. She legally immigrated to the US and proudly became a US citizen February 16th, 1977. She passed away at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 22nd, 2024. She was known by all who she met as Trudy, but to her many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many other children over the years that she cared for she was simply known as Oma.
Trudy was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband Edgar C. Bennington Jr. of 38+ years who preceded her in death in August of 2001. As the middle child of four, she outlived all three of her siblings. She was also preceded in death by two sons, two grandsons, and one step-granddaughter. She is survived by six children and their spouses, sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and numerous stepchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren.
Trudy worked for decades in hospitality, over twenty years for Marriott in addition to many other high-end restaurants and country clubs. She made many friends thru work and had many fond memories of her days serving others to support her family. She had such a spirit to serve that it carried over into her own home as you could not enter her home without being given food and drink to the point of bursting. Outside of her love to cook and bake for everyone, she enjoyed getting her hair done, having lunch at The Bonefish Grille. She met a kindred spirit in a server named Patrick at The Bonefish Grille, who became like a son to her. She loved animals and over the years, rescued many dogs and gave them the best home imaginable.
Oma will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and by Sparky, Donald, and Gilbert.
