

No service was reported for Sequim resident James L. Cherny, who died March 17, 2011, at the age of 81.
He was born May 4, 1929, in Chicago, Ill.
He graduated from Lane Tech at the age of 16 and enlisted in the Army in Airborne and later Special Forces.
Upon his return from Japan, he went to California to meet his “pen pal” of more than a year and was soon married.
He attended Northwestern University and graduated magnum cum laude. He was president of the honor society and captain of the gymnastics team.
He was elected to run NIPPS as deputy commander of Defense Printing. He was awarded the Distinguished Senior Executive Award by three different presidents.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughters Monica and Teresa; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
