From a young age, John knew that he wanted to be a police officer and fulfilled that childhood
dream working in law enforcement for 32 years; the bulk of that time spent serving Baltimore
City. John loved being a police officer and found his real passion serving on the B.C.P.D.
Marine Unit and Dive Team. He enjoyed regaling family and friends with stories of his many
adventures as a police officer.
John married the love of his life, Diane Baublitz, on August 12, 2006. He retired from the
B.C.P.D. in 2013 and he and Diane then moved to North Carolina and settled into their quiet
country home, which they shared with numerous spoiled dogs and one aloof cat.
If you knew John well, you know that he loved the great outdoors where he would spend too
many cold mornings (or afternoons as he got older) hunting in the woods of West Virginia. If he
wasn’t hunting, you could find him fishing in the Outer Banks. In addition to these two hobbies,
he enjoyed a good cigar, playing on his real life tractors, and hanging on the porch with his loyal
four-legged friends.
John was preceded in death by his beloved mother Frances and stepfather Walter Johnson. He
is survived by his loving wife Diane; brother-in-law Fred Baublitz and his wife Anna;
brother-in-law Brian Baublitz and his wife Cindy; as well as several nieces and nephews.
John may no longer be here but the memories he has left us all with of his warm smile, wicked
sense of humor, and contagious laughter will never be forgotten. John was a hard worker and
dedicated to every task. He was loyal and patriotic. All of these qualities sum up the man who
had such a heart for public service and made such a positive impact in the lives of all who knew
him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers
