Mr. Gray was born in Brunswick County on November 6, 1950 and was the son of the late Andrew Benjamin Gray Sr. and Annie Neal Demery Gray. He was also preceded in death by a brother Tim Gray. He was employed with CP&L until 1993 as a planner and then he owned and operated A.B.’s Backhoe service and was the co-owner of Expressions Florist and Gift Shoppe. A.B.’s passion was serving his God, loving family and working on all his heavy equipment.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Varnam Gray; a son, Chad Gray and wife Hamilton and their children, Ethan and Zoe Gray; a daughter, Hope Gray Bowen and husband Keith and their children, Christen and Haleigh Bowen; a sister, Frances Mankin, a brother, Jerry Gray and several nieces and nephews, extended family, and loving friends.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday January 16th, 2019 at one o’clock in the afternoon at Old Shallotte Baptist Church with Reverend Rory Thigpen and Reverend Landis Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in the Chapel Hill-Lehue cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Gray, Jeffery Varnam, Steven Varnam, Gage Mankin, Bradley Caison, Chris Bozeman. Honorary pallbearers will be, David Gray, Larry Blanton, Larry McNair, Winston Woodard.
Friends are invited to a time of visitation with the family at the church one hour prior to the service.
