Betty Anne Burke, 94, of Shallotte, North Carolina, passed away on October 1, 2026. Born in Orlando, Florida on December 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Ann Hodge Eldridge. Throughout her life, Betty Anne was deeply cherished by those who knew her, remembered for a steady kindness, a generous spirit, and a faith that quietly guided the way she cared for others.
Betty Anne was preceded in death by her husbands, Jabe Sherertz and Jack Burke; two children, Patti Doyle and Gary Sherertz; and four brothers, Pat, Homer, Gene, and Ray. She is survived by her son, Gregory Sherertz (Sherri) of Key West, Florida; grandchildren, Nicole Blevins, Shawna Heard, Anthony Doyle, and Jodi Krous (Warren); and great grandchildren, Arieon Blevins, Kapri Whibbey, Savannah Heard, Aspen Heard, Brynna Doyle, Maeve Doyle, Maggie Krous, Andrew Krous, and Thomas Krous.
A faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Betty Anne lived her beliefs through devoted service and a compassionate regard for others. She was very active in the Moose Lodge for 15 years, and her commitment to community was also reflected in her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels through the Brunswick County Senior Resource Center—offering help in a way that was both selfless and quietly inspiring.
Raised on a farm with four older brothers, Betty Anne carried forward a strong work ethic and a practical wisdom that showed in the life she built. She was an avid gardener who took great pride in her home and landscaping, tending to what she loved with patience and care. While living in Bryson City, North Carolina, she owned and operated a travel agency, bringing diligence and thoughtful attention to the people she served. In the midst of life’s responsibilities, she also made room for simple joys, and she especially loved playing Yahtzee with her Yahtzee family.
