

Betty was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on September 30, 1937 and was the daughter of the late John and Julia Sing Suggs and Violet Clemmons. She was preceded in death by her husband's Billy Varnam and James Kermit Galloway, Sr. She was a member of Gospel Center Baptist Church. She and her first husband Billy owned and operated B-Var Boat Yard for many years. She was the original owner and operator Betty's Waterfront Restaurant. Betty served on the Brunswick County Planning Board and the Brunswick County Board of Social Services during which served as Interim Director.
She is survived by a Children, Brent Varnam and wife Rebecca of Varnamtown, children she thought of as her own Hubert Varnam and Michael Langley ,James Kermit Galloway, Jr. of Whiteville, Kim Todd and husband George of Supply; grandchildren, James Ashton Varnam, Hannah Varnam Huff and husband Jason, Stephen Todd, Ryan Todd, Lindsey Todd Blankenship and husband Adam; great grandchildren, Sabrina and Scarlett Huff, Adelyn and Ainsley Blankenship, Peyton, Jayden, Joshua Galloway and Ashleigh Robinson; brothers, Don Clemmons and wife Debbie, Waddell Clemmons and wife Judy, Danny Clemmons and wife Wanda and Ernest Clemmons.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 7, 2026 at three o'clock in the afternoon at Gospel Center Baptist Church with Reverend Dwarka Ramphal officiating. Burial will follow in the Gospel Center Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brent Varnam, Hubert Varnam, Ashton Varnam, Leamon Clemmons, Jody Clemmons and Michael Langley. Honorary pallbearers will be, George Todd, Stephen Todd and Ryan Todd.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
