

Cecil Ray Register, 94 of Sunset Beach passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on May 13, 2026 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, where he lived for the past two and a half years.
Mr. Register was born February 15, 1932 in Wallace, North Carolina, son of the late Monroe F. and Eva Buckner Register and adopted son of the late Henry L. and Willie Mae Register. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn McLendon Register. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard and on active duty during the Korean War from March 1951-September 1952. In 1955, Mr. Register gained his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education from NC State University and continued to pursue his Masters in Business Administration from Campbell University in 1982. Mr. Register retired from United Carolina Bank in 1994. He also worked as the County Supervisor with Farmers Home Administration. He was active in his churches being an Elder and Deacon at both First Presbyterian Church in Dunn, North Carolina and Shallotte Presbyterian Church, in Shallotte, North Carolina. He served in various capacities such as President of the Men of the Church, Chairman of various Councils and Sunday School Teacher. His community was important to him and he was active in various Community Affairs such as the Library Committee, a member of the Lions Club in Shallotte and the Kiwanis Club in Dunn.
While living in Raleigh he was a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was active with the Keenagers, the Library committee, Habitat for Humanity, and Loaves and Fishes, an after-school tutoring program. After re-locating to Sunset Beach to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law in 2023, he became a member of the Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed attending the Men’s Bible Study on Tuesday mornings. Cecil was beloved by his many friends and had never met a stranger. Cecil was an avid NC State Wolfpack football and basketball and loved watching and cheering on the Pack.
Cecil is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Martha Register-Futrell and George Futrell of Sunset Beach, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Evander McLendon III of Rocky Point, North Carolina; and beloved step grandchildren Jason Futrell of Las Vegas, Nevada and Amber Futrell of Richlands, North Carolina.
A Celebration of Life will be on June 27, 2026 at 11:00 am at Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Services will be live-streamed by the church. Lunch will be provided following the service at a location to be determined.
