Deborah was born June 8, 1949 in Maine, daughter of the late George W. Leighton and Dorothy Currie Leighton. She worked as Assistant Dean at the Maritime Academy until her retirement. Deborah moved to coastal North Carolina thirteen years ago. Sunbathing, walking along the beach, and crocheting were some of her favorite pastimes.
Survivors include her longtime partner, Paul Council of Shallotte; two sons, and one daughter.
