Mr. Skala was born June 9, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Edward William Skala, Sr. and Amelia Essig Skala. He grew up in Illinois and met his wife Shirley while in high school. The two were married on June 16, 1956. He worked as a Director at Commonwealth Edison in data processing. They remained in Illinois until he retired at the age of 55. After retirement, he and his wife Shirley moved to Bull Shoals Lake area in Arkansas where they enjoyed retirement life, fishing, woodworking, and golfing. He was a "jack of all trades" and enjoyed tinkering with anything that was broken. In 2012 they returned to Illinois to be close to their family before relocating to Lake Wylie, South Carolina to enjoy additional family and a warmer climate. Edward had the desire to be closer to the ocean and decided to relocate one last time at which he and Shirley made the move to Shallotte, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alyce Zalabak and lifelong friends.
