He was born in Mooresville (Iredell County) to the late Lewis Sidney Coggins and Dorothy Roberts Coggins. He attended Mooresville High School. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was SSGT in the USAF from 1966-1970 serving in the 365th Bomb Squad. He worked At Duke Energy for 31 years where he was supervisor of the coal handling department. After retirement he worked for Tire Masters in Mooresville, NC. He had a great love for his family, friends, the military and the Ocean Isle Beach Chapel. He never met a stranger and his sense of humor endeared him to everyone. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Coggins and Jay Coggins.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years whom he married on April 2, 1983, Frankie Coggins; stepson, Chet Moore and one sister, Sandy Riley.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held at three o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at White Funeral and Cremation Service, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte, NC where Charles Fox, Chaplain of Ocean Isle Beach Chapel, will speak and anyone attending can share a memory.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from two o'clock until three o'clock.
