

Hilda Jane Lemon Harper, 87, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025. Born on October 26, 1938, in Powhatan, West Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of Harry Edward Lemon and Lola Craft Lemon.
Mrs. Harper graduated from Brigham Young University in May 1961 and soon after made Raleigh, North Carolina her lifelong home. On October 27, 1962, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Weston Harper, with whom she shared many devoted years until his passing.
A gifted educator, Mrs. Harper devoted more than 40 years to the Wake County Public School System. Teaching was her calling, and she poured her heart into her students, believing deeply in the power of education to open doors and shape futures.
Her faith was central to her life. Mrs. Harper was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. An accomplished pianist and organist, she played the organ for Sunday services for more than 40 years. She taught Sunday School, supported youth programs, and spent her life serving others in quiet, meaningful ways.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Harper; her parents, Harry and Lola Lemon; and her brother, Harry Edward Lemon, Jr. She is survived by her loving sister, Kathy Lemon Riggs; and her nieces and nephews: Brett Riggs and his wife, Kimberly; Yarby Petty and her husband, Doug; Trey Lemon and his wife, Danielle; and Heather Broadhurst and her husband, Red. She also leaves behind their children, all of whom brought her great joy.
Mrs. Harper will be laid to rest at a graveside service on November 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she will be buried beside her beloved husband.

Hilda will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her faith, her devotion to music, and her lifetime of service – both in the classroom and within her church. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched with her quiet strength and unwavering love.
