Hugh Arthur Blackburn

Hugh Arthur Blackburn, age 83, of Supply, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Hugh was born July 8, 1938 in Hartsville, SC and was the son of the late Herbert and Freida Ammons Blackburn. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

To know Hugh was to love Hugh. He loved people, and they loved him. He lived a very full life with a wonderful family, surrounded by love, and had more friends across the continents than most people I know – he never met a stranger!

Hugh and Debbie began their lives together at Harborside at Lake Murray, SC where they made hundreds of friends who were more like family, spent lots of time working (owning their own floor covering business) but also had a lot of time for family and friends. They were married on Lake Murray with many pontoon boats tied together for the celebration – such fond memories!

Hugh and Deb moved to Mexico in 2003, started another adventure. It was never suspected that they would end up staying 15 years. After health issues, they returned to Holden Beach to be closer to medical attention for Hugh. He never stopped wanting to be in Mexico, and his ashes will be scattered in the Caribbean, where he left his heart!

Hugh was devoted – to family, friends, work – whatever he set out to do, he gave it all he had. He was a jack of all trades, could fix anything, and did right up to the end. He loved to “train” people – and was also still “learning” us as he made his exit. I’ve never met a man with more integrity than Hugh Blackburn. He will forever be in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will surely be missed!

The celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday February 5, 2022 at The Bridge Church, 1180 Mount Pisgah Road, Supply, NC.

He is survived by his wife Debbie Blackburn; four children, Jimmy Blackburn (Paula) of Castle Hayne, Mike Blackburn of Wilmington, Charles Penninger of Las Vegas, Nevada and Thomas Penninger (Jennifer) of Supply; six grandchildren
