James “Sam” Wesley Adams, 80, of Calabash, North Carolina, passed away on October 19, 2026. Born on September 21, 1946, in Guilford County, North Carolina, Sam was the son of the late Chas P. Adams and Myrtle Isom Adams.
Through a life marked by steady purpose and quiet courage, Sam built a legacy of devotion and care—one shaped by hard work, thoughtful attention to others, and the kind of presence that becomes deeply cherished by family and friends.
Sam retired from the United States Postal Service, a fitting chapter in a life defined by reliability and service. While residing in Maryland, he owned and operated Tenant Qualifiers, and after moving to Brunswick County, he transferred his company there—carrying forward the same diligence and determination that guided him throughout his working years. His willingness to take on new challenges reflected an adventurous spirit grounded in responsibility. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed riding motorcycles.
Sam is survived by his wife, Lena Shelton Adams; a daughter, Samantha Clark of Gaithersburg, Maryland; a son, Andre Adams of Wilmington, NC; a brother, Scott Adams (Lani) of Chesterfield, SC; two sisters, Tammy Mondragon (Salvador) of Chesterfield, SC and Charlene Nelson (Donald) of Wilmington, NC; and numerous grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Adams, two brothers, Timothy C. Adams and Edward P. Adams, his step-mother, Carol P. Adams.
Sam will be remembered with respect and gratitude—for the steadfast love he gave, the work he took pride in, and the thoughtful ways he supported those around him. His memory will remain a lasting comfort to all who knew and loved him.
