John "Monkey" Dawson Simmons
August 5, 1939 – February 10, 2019
John Dawson “Monkey” Simmons, 79, of Pireway passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 at his home.
Monkey was born August 5, 1939 in Columbus County, son of the late Allen Miles Simmons and Dollye Roberts Simmons. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. Preceding him in death were seven brothers, Leon Simmons, Grady Simmons, Louis Simmons, Charles Simmons, Bobby Simmons, Kenneth “Ham Bone” Simmons, and Harry Simmons; and two sisters, Beatrice Stamey and Sarah Pendergraft.
Survivors include his daughter Sheila Gerald-Evans and husband Tracy of Pireway; brother, Ned Simmons and wife Nancy of Bolton; grandson, Ray Gerald and wife Hailey; great granddaughter MaKenzie Gerald; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at three o’clock in the afternoon at White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Shallotte. Burial will follow in Griffin Cemetery in Ash.
Pallbearers will be Ray Gerald, Casey Simmons, Dusty Simmons, Jr. Simmons, Tracy Evans, and Greg White.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from two o’clock until three o’clock at the funeral home.
