Lillian Agnes Brooks, Agnes or Aggie to those who knew her well, passed away at the age of 90. She left her Earthly body in Carolina Shores, NC surrounded by generations of loved ones, and walked into the presence of her Savior at 9 am on Thursday, June 9, 2022.
Born, Lillian Agnes Hurt on March 10, 1932, she was the oldest daughter of Clarence and Georgia Hurt of Raven, Va. At the age of 16, she gave her heart to Jesus and later taught Sunday school at Raven Assembly of God leading many students in devotion and relationship with Jesus. She graduated from Richlands High School in Richlands, Virginia in 1950. She was a voracious reader, and inspired others in their love of books. Nothing was more important to her than taking care of her family and being an active part of her church.
In 1951, she began a correspondence with soldier, Clyde Lee Brooks and later in January of 1954 they married. During the course of their marriage they happily welcomed two daughters, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Despite the sadness of losing the wisdom, prayers and love of their Matriarch, her loved ones take comfort in knowing that she is finally home, reunited with the love of her life and many other family and friends that she has lost through the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Brooks, mother, Georgia Hurt, Father Clarence Hurt Sr, Step-mother Sylvia Hurt, and Sister in law Patricia Hurt. She leaves behind many loved ones including her younger siblings, Clarence “June” Hurt Jr. of Honaker, Virginia and Louise Miller, husband Roger of Bluefield, W Virginia; her daughters and their husbands, Sheliah and James Pruett of Carolina Shores, NC, and Rhonda and Curtis Grubb of Clayton, NC; her grandchildren, James Pruett II, wife Sasha of Raleigh, NC, Carrie Terrell and husband Jesse of Supply, NC, Alena Stogsdill, and husband Houston of Mooresboro, NC, Nicholas Grubb and wife Caroline of Wendell, NC, Matthew Grubb, and Christopher Grubb both of Clayton, NC, and four great grandchildren. These are but a small number of those who love her, not including nephews, a niece and multiple grand nieces and nephews.
The family will have a 10 am visitation and an 11 am service on Friday, June 17, 2022 at her mausoleum in Greenhills Memorial Gardens Richlands, Virginia. Services will be provided by White Funeral and Cremation Service of Shallotte, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to be made to one of the ministries Agnes supported frequently, Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry.
