Marion Nelson

Marion was born on January 29, 1934, in Tarrytown, New York, daughter of the late William and Cecilia McKean. She was a parishioner of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Shallotte.

Marion attended mass weekly with her sister, Carol, followed by a standing breakfast reservation. She also enjoyed playing cards weekly with friends within her community. She loved music (especially country music). She was a gifted pianist who learned to play at a young age. An avid reader – she would easily find herself reading two novels a week. And she and her daughter, Karen, enjoyed shopping together – it brought them much joy. She also enjoyed traveling whenever she could especially her trips to Ireland and France.

But most of all she loved spending time with her family and her dogs throughout the years – Blackie Brown, Rana, Mandy, Lexie, Shelly and Charlie.

She is survived by her four children, Keith Asplund and wife Pamela, Karen Asplund - Cameron and husband Brad, Kyle Asplund and wife Sally, and Kenneth Asplund; a brother, Donald McKean and wife Sylvia; a sister, Carol Haack; six grandchildren, Brittany McEnnis, Annika Asplund, Madelyn Hedrick and husband Tanner, Camden Asplund, Connor Asplund, and Meredith Asplund; two great-grandchildren, Colin McEnnis and Lorena Hedrick; two step-children, Jeanne Keeler and husband Ray, and Robert Nelson and wife Shari; three step-grandchildren, Andrea Huffman and husband Clay, Steven Keeler, and Dillon Keeler and wife Emma; two step-great-grandchildren, John Huffman and McEwen Huffman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Asplund; her second husband, William Nelson; a brother, Robert McKean; and a brother - in - law, Thomas Haack.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 11:00 am in the White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel.
