

Michael Glenn Murray, 71, passed away on July 7, 2025 surrounded by his loving family after a four- and half-year courageous battle with colon cancer. Glenn was born on February 26, 1954 to the late John Steven Murray and Alene Benton Murray in New Hanover County, North Carolina.
Glenn was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Murray, father-in-law and mother-in-law; Hobert and Ruby Salyer.
Glenn attended Hoggard High School and Raleigh Millbrook High School graduating in 1972. In June of 1973, Glenn and his sweetheart, Brenda, married. Later on in 1974, 1976 and 1979, Glenn and Brenda welcomed their three children. Glenn enlisted in the United States of America Army military branch, February 19, 1974. This allowed him to see several parts of the world to include being stationed at Fort Devens Army Base, Fort Devens, Massachusetts, Augsburg, Germany, and Okinawa, Japan.
After his military service, Glenn took up construction and created his own business, Glenn Murray Construction. Under this umbrella of craftsmanship, Glenn was sought out to build several homes in the New Hanover and Brunswick County areas, to remodeling Reed’s Jewelry stores on the east coast and then remodeling duties throughout southeastern North Carolina. Glenn also took up the role of Maintenance Director at Cooke Realty in Ocean Isle Beach where he maintained the service and care of hundreds of rental beach homes at Ocean Isle Beach. Glenn fulfilled his working duties by continuing his love for remodel work in and around Brunswick County.
Glenn is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 52 years, Brenda Salyer Murray, married on June 16, 1973, children: Leslie McNamara (Corey Thomas), Shannon Urban (John), Mike Murray (Kelly Emory); grandchildren: Cameron McNamara (Amanda Reese), Byron Christian Murray (Ruthie), Dalton Urban (Sara), Ashlynn McNamara, Sophie Urban, Brayden Murray, Olivia Urban (Cole Gunther), McKenzie Murray, Bentlee Murray; great-granddaughter, Adalee Urban and great-grandson arrival in December 2025, brother, Larry Steven Murray (Diane), sisters: Peggy Pratt (Richard), Alanna McVay (Sherrill), and three additional siblings, a host of several nieces, nephews and cousins, his faithful canine companions: Walker and Ruby.
A Celebration of Life memorial service, with military honors, will be held at Odell Williamson Auditorium Event Center on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 2pm.
