Mildred Long Jenrette was born on July 25, 1941 in Longwood, NC and died on April 25, 2021 in Wilmington, NC. She was the daughter of the late Vinson L. Long and Mettie Register Long. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Ruth Bennett and Debby Ann Leonard.
After graduating from Waccamaw High School, Mildred moved to Greensboro where she worked several years at the New York Stock Exchange. Once she married and moved to Wilmington, she became a homemaker until she began working again at Century Mills in the accounting office and then as office manager at Delaney Radiology.
In 1986 upon a diagnosis of Lupus, she moved to Tabor City. She later required neck and back surgery that left her bedridden. She moved back to Wilmington to be closer to her daughter.
During the past 8 years, she cherished visits from her grandchildren and especially loved when the great grandchildren would bring her their masterpieces that they had lovingly drawn for Granny.
First Baptist Church of Wilmington was also dear to her heart as they became her church family. They showed their love by the frequent visits, thoughtful gifts, altar flowers and Christmas carolers.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Melaney Flowers, and husband, Jay; a sister Christine Gore, husband Henry; granddaughters, Olivia Flowers and Scarlett Wolfe Nichols, husband Jason; great grandchildren, Claire, Trey, Peyton and Grayson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 12 :00 noon at First Baptist Church of Wilmington with Dr. Jim Everette officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church of Wilmington.
