

Mr. Varnam was born in Brunswick County on July 15, 1917 and was the son of the late Johnny and Katie Caison Varnam. He was U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Varnam was a Baptist Minister for 45 years.. After serving as a full time Pastor he served as an Interim Pastor for several years. He was well known for his expertise in Boat Building and shared that passion with many people with his building of shrimp boat replicas. He was also known with helping building of homes in his community. He was a very generous man and enjoyed helping others unselfishly.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Varnam; two children, Dusty Varnam and wife Jo Ann of Supply, Diane Lynn Davis of Supply; four grandchildren, Weston Matthew Varnam , Meredith Varnam Sullivan and husband Kevin, Richard and Ryan Ward; three great grandchildren, Alexis and Allison Davis and Brian Sullivan. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Ryan and Scott Davis; brothers, Eddie Varnam, Hoyle Varnam, Clyde Varnam, Johnny Varnam; sisters, Zelma Phillips, Lula Sullivan, Vera Robbins, Ruth Caison.
Funeral services will be held Monday August 24, 2015 at 2pm at Gospel Center Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Foyd Bennett and Reverend Anthony Clemmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Gospel Center Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Arthur Robbins, John Galloway, Danny Galloway, Kevin Caison, Danny Fulford, Michael Caison. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ennis Swain, Richard Edge, Phillip Thomas, Harold D. Varnam.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at Gospel Center Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
