Rhonda Lanee Mooney, 60, passed away on May 31, 2026. Born in Brunswick County on August 25, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Clevie Shelton Hewett and Joan Mooney Hewett. Rhonda was a resident of Shallotte, North Carolina.
Those who knew Rhonda will remember a woman who met life with steady determination and a sincere, grounded way of being. Hard-working and devoted, she carried herself with honesty and a thoughtful regard for others, offering kindness in ways that felt natural and unassuming. Even in ordinary moments, her sense of humor brought lightness and ease, a quiet reminder that warmth and dignity can live side by side.
Rhonda found genuine enjoyment in the simple, meaningful rhythms of home and outdoors. She took pride in working in her yard, and her adventurous spirit drew her to the river, where she loved shrimping, fishing, clamming, and oystering—pastimes that reflected both her appreciation for nature and her willingness to embrace the work and patience they require.
A woman of faith, Rhonda was a member of Shell Point Baptist Church, where her presence reflected the same steady devotion and kind-hearted character that shaped her life beyond its walls.
Rhonda will be remembered with respect and gratitude by all who had the privilege to know her.
She is survived by her son, Richard Mooney of Shallotte; Aunt, Lora Faye Clemmons of Shallotte; Uncle, Steve Mooney of Shallotte and numerous cousins and extended family,
