Mr. Polonski was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 7, 1934. Dick spent his early years in foster care in New York and was drafted into the U.S Army following World War II, serving in Germany and other European posts as a member of the military police. He was a licensed electrician but was employed for most of his working career by IBM as a field engineer in the New York City area until his early retirement in 1992. While at IBM, he met his wife Joyce who was the love of his life. Joyce and Dick moved to Carolina Shores and were married in 1992. During his retirement years, Dick pursued his passions, which included fishing at the Sunset Beach Pier, golfing at his home course of Carolina Shores, working on home improvement projects for himself and others (especially his family) and attending to his beloved Joyce.
Dick placed great value on family and friends. The love he showed for his family and friends was returned to him in greater measure. Dick leaves a legacy of devotion, caring and helping others. He will be fondly remembered for his easy manner, intelligence, ingenuity, perseverance, sense of humor, boyish laugh, kindness, humility and especially for his boundless love and devotion to Joyce. He will be especially missed by Joyce who selflessly and tirelessly cared for Dick after he suffered a stroke in 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce P. Polonski; his children, Richard, Corinn, Erik and Kristie; his step-children, Rose Canavan, Salvatore Carrubba, Joseph Carrubba (wife Linda), Julianne Ward (husband Brien); his grandchildren, Justin Coffman, Erika Powell, Luke Canavan, Spencer Sodokoff and five great grandchildren; a brother, Gus Fricker and a sister, Marian Sajeski.
A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
