Richard was the eldest of four boys born into a close-knit first-generation immigrant Italian family in Massachusetts, living amongst grandparents, aunts and uncles. He spent what he would often describe as an idyllic childhood when “come home when the streetlights come on” was considered the standard parental directive, and enjoyed the devoted love and support from his parents, Salvatore and Virginia (Vaglica) Rando from whom he also learned the meaning of sacrifice and hard work.
In his youth he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but as he grew older it would upset him to see a dead deer on the side of the road and hunting no longer interested him. He still liked to fish and some of the best times were spent with friends out on a boat that sometimes even culminated in a delicious meal of fresh caught sea bass or swordfish.
Throughout his life, Richard embarked on many careers, from banking to high tech, commercial construction and finally after moving to North Carolina finishing up on the Architectural Standards Committee in a community development. Each time, he approached the challenge with the same amount of zeal, dedication and the desire to help others along the way.
After retirement, he focused his attention on helping his wife maintain the house and garden (somewhat reluctantly!) serving on the Board of Directors in his adopted community and watching his beloved New England Patriots, during good years and bad.
He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his beautiful smile and quick wit; he was the master of the ultimate rejoinder, his love of pasta and Pinot Grigio.
He leaves his wife Anne, four wonderful boys; Richard Rando, Jr., David, Jonathan and Matthew four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
