Roy Kirby

Roy Kirby, 72, of Supply, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026, at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center.

Roy was born in Southport, North Carolina, on March 23, 1954, the son of the late Roy Byron Kirby and Geraldine Sellers Kirby. A lifelong Brunswick County native, Roy built a life centered around hard work, family, and an appreciation for the simple things that brought him happiness.

For forty years, Roy worked for Cottrell Engineering, where he ultimately retired as Chief Engineer. His long and successful career reflected the kind of man he was—dedicated, dependable, hardworking, and someone who took great pride in a job well done.

Away from work, Roy found his greatest enjoyment at home and surrounded by the people he loved. He had a true passion for gardening and took great pride in growing his own vegetables. As much as he enjoyed tending his garden, he may have enjoyed sharing its harvest even more. Family, friends, and neighbors could often count on Roy to send them home with something fresh from his garden.

Some of Roy’s favorite days were also the simplest—relaxing by the pool, working in his garden, or gathering everyone together for a family cookout. Those gatherings created countless treasured memories over the years, and Roy’s sweet iced tea and homemade biscuits became family favorites that everyone looked forward to.

Long before the quiet afternoons by the pool and days spent tending his garden, Roy also knew how to have a good time. As a younger man, he loved skating at the Shallotte Skating Ring. It was a favorite pastime and one of the many memories that reflected his lifelong connection to the Shallotte and Supply communities he called home.

Above all else, Roy loved God and his family. He shared 44 years of marriage with his wife, Denice, and was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. With such a large family circle there was rarely a shortage of people around, and Roy treasured the time they spent together. His legacy will live on through the countless memories created over the years—the laughter and conversations around the table, the time shared with family and friends, and the ordinary moments that became treasured simply because Roy was there.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his sister, Tina Kirby Ladson.

He is survived by his wife Denice Hewett Kirby of the home; two loving sons, Allen Darrell Smith and wife Debbie of Calabash, and Byron Lee Kirby and wife Amanda of Bolivia; a sister, Donna Newton and husband John of Supply; brother-in-law, Bobby Jack Ladson of Supply; and an honorary son, KK Khounpachamsy and wife Kaedee of Tampa Florida, a special niece, Elaine Eaton and husband Brandon of Leland. Roy was also blessed with a large and loving extended family of more than 56 nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, each of whom held a special place in his life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at White Funeral and Cremation Service, 4690 East Coast Lane, Shallotte.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at United Vision Pentecostal Church, 2408 A.I. Clemmons Road, Shallotte, with Pastor Ricky Hewett officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Shallotte.

Pallbearers will be: Mark Hewett, Mark E Hewett, Kelly Todd, Alan Woodard, Ernie Armikovitch and Daniel Tharpe
