A devoted presence in the lives of those he loved, Stephen is survived by his companion of several years, Mary Umber Hewett; children, Jacob Dean and wife Beth of Ash, Stephen Dean and wife Sissy of Leland, Ricky Clemmons of Wilmington, Emily Clemmons Sebastianelli of Ash and Sarah Reams of Ash; grandchildren, Stephen Dean, Isabelle Dean, T.J. Hard-working and steadfast, Stephen built a life marked by honest effort and quiet reliability. A talented mechanic, welder, and cook, he took pride in doing things the right way and in using his hands and skill to provide, to fix, and to care for others in practical, meaningful ways.
Away from work, Stephen found peace and purpose on the water. He loved shrimping in the ocean, and he also cherished the companionship of his dogs—simple joys that reflected the steady, faithful heart so many came to rely on.
