Wendy was the daughter of the late Ray Young Adams. Wendy was also preceded in death by her step-father Oris Nelson. She is survived by her mother, Jean Nelson of Oak Island; her companion of twelve years, Bill Powers of Sunset Beach; her sister, Dawn Case and fiancée Harlan Pyles of Oak Island; nephews, Justin Case and wife Eileen of Holly Springs and Murphy Case and wife Melinda of Wilmington; and great nephew and nieces, Olivia Case, Ethan Case and Hazel Case; stepsister Diana Sparks of Madison, NC and stepbrother Dwayne Nelson, wife Sherri of Rural Hall, NC
Those who knew Wendy will remember a woman whose care for others was steady and sincere, expressed most clearly in the way she gave of herself without hesitation. Her compassion was especially evident in her devotion to animals and their well being; she considered her animals as her children, and she approached their care with the same tenderness and constancy she offered throughout her life.
Wendy also found deep joy in the traditions of the holidays, most especially Christmas and Easter. She took special pleasure in decorating her home for all occasions, and particularly for the holidays—creating a welcoming space that reflected her thoughtful spirit and the quiet generosity with which she marked the seasons.
It was Wendy's request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to ASPCA to help animals.
